Massey Contracting, a roofing company in Jacksonville, Fla., faces multiple lawsuits and is under investigation by the State Bureau of Insurance Fraud, according to News4JAX. The company’s customers, employees and subcontractors say they are owed a combined total of nearly $1 million. Massey Contracting is not an NRCA member.
Chase Massey, the company’s owner, said he faced challenges when no hurricanes struck Florida in 2025, and his company had been counting on the typical increase of storm-related roofing work. Massey said his company employed more than 100 people at its peak and admitted he did not let people go when he probably should have. At least one employee—a former sales manager—has taken legal action regarding unpaid wages, and the judge ruled in favor of the employee. Massey was ordered to pay about $40,000 in unpaid wages, but an attempt to garnish Massey’s wages was unsuccessful. Court documents reported a zero balance in two of Massey’s savings accounts and $1,409 in a third account.
Additionally, one of the largest roofing supply companies in the U.S. is suing Massey Contracting, alleging the company failed to pay nearly $927,000 for roofing materials purchased on credit.
Multiple Massey Contracting customers paid a deposit for a new roof that was never completed.
Massey said he is aware of the allegations and lawsuits and is hoping to rebuild his business and the community’s trust. He said he expects all pending cases to be resolved within 30 to 45 days and customers will receive refunds if there is work not completed on the company’s contracts.
